Project Details

This project was inspired by a winter-themed aesthetic in New Hampshire. I wanted to create my own stencils that evoked the look and feel of water, ice, and snow. The project featured a three-color camouflage pattern with a white barrel and trigger.

Winter Themed AR-15

For the first layer, I attempted a fade using dark blue and white with my airbrush. It was my first time trying this type of gradient. I wish I had gone heavier with the white to create more contrast.

Once the first layer was complete, I applied the stencils I had drawn by hand. While designing them, I aimed for shapes that resembled liquid or ice.

Second color … more stencils.

The final layer was Sniper Grey. The items were cured at 250 degrees for two hours. I baked the scope separately at 160 degrees for two hours, as I was concerned that internal components might melt or be damaged at higher temperatures.

Here’s a look at each piece after I removed the stencils. It took quite a bit of time to peel them off and clean up the adhesive they left behind. I used Goof-Off to break down the glue, then washed each part in the sink using a brush and dish soap.
