This was a fun project and different from any I’ve done in the past. The goal was to take the classic Leatherman tool and Cerakote it using an array of colors. The first task was to disassemble the tool and determine which colors to use for each piece. I decided it would be cool to camo the handles using a three-color pattern and to carry one of those colors through to the rest of the main components.
As for the tools, I took a bit of a risk by using different colors for the main, longer tools — such as the blades — and pairing them with the smaller secondary tools. For the end caps, I used a different shade of red, which I also applied as a red circle on the pliers component to match.
As for the hardware, such as the screws and the larger, disk-like fasteners, I coated them in one of the camo colors: dark bronze. Once all the parts were finished, I reassembled the entire Leatherman — a meticulous process in itself, considering the number of components involved.
Altogether, I used nine different colors to complete the piece. I’m very happy with how it turned out and plan on doing more like this in the future.
