//Barrel Shrouds

Project Details

These are examples of different distressed styles applied to the same barrel shrouds, showcasing a rugged, battle-worn aesthetic. I began by creating a two-color camouflage pattern, using stenciling to add specific details and enhance the overall design. Afterward, I practiced the "distressed" or "battle-worn" technique, which involves selectively removing portions of the topcoat to reveal the underlying layers, simulating the look of wear and tear over time. To achieve this distressed look, I sprayed on a thin layer of black, baked it at 150 degrees for about 8-10 minutes to remove the tackiness, and let it cool slightly. Then, I used steel wool and a Scotch-Brite pad to brush or wipe off the black, creating that battle-worn appearance. Finally, I did a final cure to complete the process. I love this technique—it’s creative, versatile, and so much fun to work with!
